Delaware is truly a "Small Wonder". Small means nimble, and Delaware
takes advantage by staying a jump ahead of its larger competitors.
Business and Industry dominate New Castle County.
DuPont
gunpowder spawned a global industrial power that flourishes today
alongside Astra Zeneca and some of the largest banks in the country.
Farms, housing, and our capital city, Dover, dominate in central Kent
County. Sussex County makes up the southern third of the state where
our white sand beaches welcome visitors from around the world.
Nestled
halfway between Philadelphia and the Baltimore/Washington area,
Delaware allows quick trips to major music, sports, and cultural
events. New York theaters, museums, and Times Square are just a
three-hour drive north.

P.S. DuPont Elementary School
Northern Delaware's system of public education changed markedly about 20 years ago when a court decision in Brown vs The Board of Education mandated busing across district borders to resolve racial separation within the schools.
As
a result, New Castle County, Delaware residents now have many options
for schooling their children, some of which include a return to
neighborhood schools.
The
following links should provide comprehensive information about public,
Charter, and Choice options within the four Delaware school districts.
From north to south the four districts are Brandywine, Red Clay,
Newark, and Colonial.

Caesar Rodney Made Delaware First to Sign the Constitution
Delaware is called "The First State" because its representative to the
Continental Congress, Caesar Rodney, was the first to sign the
Constitution. Prior to Independence, however, Delaware had a troubled
history and wasn't even known as Delaware.
The
Dutch were the first to claim the area when, in 1631, they set foot in
Lewis and tried to make a settlement. Unfortunately, Indians massacred
them all.
The
Swedes are credited with the first permanent settlement beginning in
1638. Located near Wilmington, the town was called Fort Christina.
In
1664, the English captured the fort for the Duke of York who sold the
territory to William Penn. Penn annexed the area to his Pennsylvania
where it remained for years.
You'll find many reasons to admire Delaware (as well as a few reasons to roll your eyes) as you learn about its past.

The Gulf Stream swings close to
shore near Delaware and keeps Delaware's climate fairly temperate. Our
average high is 85.6 degrees, and our average low temperature is 23.2
degrees. Major weather disturbances such as tornadoes and hurricanes
are very rare. Residents enjoy four separate seasons here, but a real
blizzard is rare.
Winter
usually brings some snow and ice, but amounts vary widely year to year.
Temperatures in summer sometimes reach into the 90s, but it's the
humidity that most residents complain about. We have our share of bad
hair days. Spring and autumn are unbelievably beautiful.
Just
100 miles long and 30 miles wide, Delaware in tucked between
Pennsylvania to the north, New Jersey to the east, and Maryland to the
west and south. For many years Delaware remained an undiscovered gem
along the eastern seaboard, but recent years have seen the population
grow dramatically as residents of surrounding states discovered "The
Diamond State".
